Barry Sheerman speaking at Red Balloon’s reception at Speaker’s House, May 22, 2012

Barry Sheerman MP and Baroness Sal Brinton are co-chairing an APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) looking into the issue of children missing education because of severe bullying. So far more than 30 MPs and six members of the House of Lords have expressed a wish to join this group. Our next meeting will be on 2 July.

Various groups of children receive additional funding over and above the AWPU (age weighted pupil unit) including those children who are excluded for aggressive or disruptive behaviour.

We hope to persuade the DfE to find additional funding for severely bullied children in the same way as excluded children are funded OR to share the money currently put aside for excluded children between both these groups.
